World Intellectual Property Day celebrates innovative women

Powering change: Women in innovation and creativity. This is the theme of 2018’s World Intellectual Property Day, a celebration that takes place every April 26. The campaign will focus on celebrating “the brilliance, ingenuity, curiosity, and courage of the women who are driving change in our world and shaping our common future.” (World Intellectual Property Organization)

We love the topic, and we want you to be aware of the events scheduled for the day all over the world. We’ll be attending one at the University of Navarra, in Spain. πŸ˜‰

Think of an inventor…

WIPO invites this year’s participants to ask ourselves a question: “Think of an inventor… what’s her name?”

If you can’t think of many names, that’s alright. The truth is, it’s not an easy question. And that’s the problem.

It reminds us of the fantastic #MakeWhatsNext Microsoft campaign.

Did you know that most girls consider themselves less intelligent than boys since the age of six? According to a research conducted by the universities of New York, Illinois and Princeton, published in the Science magazine, gender stereotypes on intellectual ability emerge at this age, and they influence kids’ interests.

The study shows that, since a very young age, girls start to avoid activities that are for “very, very smart” people.

The next generations of women need role models with whom to feel identified and to inspire them. One way to achieve this is to give brilliant female inventors, creatives, and innovators from all disciplines the visibility they deserve.

Save the date! Events on April 26.

Organizations of many different kinds celebrate the occasion hosting activities, talks, and workshops. There could be one closer than you think!
